Home-based, all volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 2000. We care for small mammals and birds that are ill, injured or orphaned. Our goal is to restore them to health and release them back to the wild.

Provides food, temporary shelter, and healing assistance for song birds, birds of prey, waterfowl, most mammals, turtles, and snakes. Does not accept any rabies vector species such as raccoons, foxes, bats, and skunks. Also, will not accept domestic/exotic animals of any kind. Must provide own transportation. Every attempt will be made to return wildlife to its point of origin in the wild, unless inappropriate.

In Maryland, there is a large network of volunteer Wildlife Rehabilitators who take care of orphaned, sick or injured wildlife until they can be released safely back to the wild. The DNR site includes a comprehensive list with contacts for wildlife rehabilitators in each county.

The Maryland Wildlife Rehabilitators Association was formed in 1998 for the protection and preservation of Maryland wildlife and includes a directory of Maryland area wildlife rehabilitators. Individuals listed in this directory have the required permits to work with wildlife.

Sanctuary House at Muddy Paw Farm is a part of Ascension Hermitage and Sanctuary in Upper Fairmount, Somerset County, Maryland. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton, and home to cats, dogs, chickens, Guineas, a horse, rabbits, exotic birds, pigeons, ducks, geese, and a swan. The sanctuary is also a licensed rehabilitation center for wild song birds,water fowl, and small mammals. We also work with various rescue groups in finding new homes for dogs that would otherwise be euthanized.
