Additional Information: Located in near Exit 80 off I-95 in Harford County, Maryland, INTERSTATE CANINE SWIM CENTER is the first canine swim facility in Maryland and the surrounding areas.  The pool is the largest indoor canine pool in the state measuring approximately 35 feet by 60 feet. The center offers rehabilitation, therapy, conditioning , recreational and fun for your canine friend.

The benefits of hydrotherapy are numerous.  Over the past 9 years, hundreds of dogs have been helped back to full health.  Our clients include dogs who have undergone various leg surgeries (ACL repairs, TPLO, etc.) and dogs recovering from hip surgeries (TPO, FHO, and full hip replacement) as well as dogs suffering from hip and elbow dysplasia and overweight dogs.  Because swimming is a  zero impact  exercise, the dogs are able to rebuild and/or build vital muscle mass.  This shortens the road to full recovery and prevents muscular atrophy.  Swimming has also assisted dogs that have suffered back injuries where surgical intervention would have been premature.

Senior  canines also benefit from swimming in a variety of ways.  Dogs who are showing signs of debilitating arthritis and other joint diseases can sometimes delay the effects of the disease through a regular regimen of  free  swimming.  Because hard surface exercise can be painful for these dogs, swimming allows for movement of the joints while maintaining vital muscle tone.  It also ensures that a dog works the cardio-vascular system and keeps off unwanted pounds.  We are currently swimming several older large-breed dogs whose owners are convinced that without swimming, their canine companions might not be around today.

Swimming is also excellent for the conditioning of show and working dogs.  It allows them to build muscle and increases their confidence and it's just great fun.  Recreation swims are also available.

All dogs begin in a flotation device and are carefully led down a long, rubber-matted ramp and into the water. Rehab & therapy dogs start slowly and gradually work up to twenty minutes in the pool. Our staff is trained in handling all sizes of dogs and dogs recovering from all kinds of problems.  All dogs are rinsed and dried before leaving the facility.
